Types of Hearing Loss

Conductive

Conductive hearing loss usually involves the ear canal or the middle ear. This type of loss is similar to an ear infection. Sound is blocked by outer or middle ear damage or obstruction, like wax. Often a conductive loss can be treated by a physician.

Sensorineural

This is the most common type of loss. It is permanent hearing loss. This part of the hearing system involves the nerves. As of yet, medical science cannot repair nerve type hearing loss. Eighty percent of all adults with some degree of hearing loss have this type of loss.

Mixed

This is a loss that is partly conductive and partly sensorineural.
